You’ve probably heard of laser therapies as a non-surgical medical, dental, and cosmetic treatment option in people, but did you know that laser therapy can also be an excellent option for your pet? At Bluestar Pet Hospital & Grooming in St. Johns, Florida, we offer non-invasive laser therapy to treat various conditions in cats and dogs in a non-traumatic, gentle manner.
An effective treatment for many pet health conditions
Laser therapy works by using a focused beam of light energy that effectively reduces inflammation, improves blood circulation, and treats several conditions without harming the surrounding tissues. It can be a gentle, non-surgical alternative for a variety of pet illnesses and injuries, including:
- Arthritis
- Hip dysplasia
- Traumatic injuries
- Joint pain
- Back pain and degenerative disc disease
- Blocked urethras in cats
- Ear infections
- Post-surgical incision care
One of the many benefits of laser therapy for injury care is that it cauterizes and disinfects wounds as it treats, which helps reduce the chance of infection and bleeding after treatment.

What to expect during treatment
Prior to treating your pet, we will place protective eyewear on your pet to ensure that the laser beam does not damage their eyes. Our staff will also use protective eyewear and personal protective equipment. During treatment, we will slowly move the handheld laser wand back and forth over the treatment site, which will provide a warm sensation that most pets seem to find relaxing. Depending on the area being treated, the procedure will last approximately 15 to 30 minutes. Your pet may need multiple treatment sessions over a period of time; for example, pets being treated for chronic pain may benefit from weekly treatment sessions.
Keeping your pet safe and comfortable
At Bluestar Pet Hospital & Grooming, laser therapy is just one of the many state-of-the-art technologies that we have invested in to keep your pet safe and comfortable during their care. We believe it is important for our pet owners to be well-informed about their pet’s treatment plan and are always happy to discuss the pros and cons of any treatment that we recommend, along with its pricing and alternative options.
