We at Bluestar Pet Hospital empathize with the extreme stress that our clients are under when their furry family members don’t act “right,” refuse to eat or otherwise display behaviors that are outside of what is normal for them. Some symptoms, such as labored breathing or persistent vomiting, are incredibly scary. Fortunately, our veterinarians and staff have advanced capabilities and equipment to provide the highest quality emergency veterinary services to our extended family throughout the St. Johns, Florida area.
Ensuring the health of your pet
As a true pet hospital and animal care center, our veterinarians and team are available with extended hours to tend to patients promptly, and we don’t charge emergency vet service fees for weekend visits. Our sophisticated diagnostic and treatment technologies support the prompt resolution of distressing symptoms and the accurate diagnosis that informs effective treatments. In addition, our center is experienced at safely and comfortably receiving transfers from overnight emergency facilities. This allows for a continuity of optimal care for your pet. So, they can get back to feeling like their happy, healthy selves again soon.
We like to establish close relationships with our human clients and their pets (our patients). In this way, we can control preventable conditions that might otherwise lead to the need for emergency care. Ongoing “well visits” also help support the diagnosis of conditions early into the disease process. The earlier we can detect problems, the easier it may be to resolve them.
Recognizing an emergency
While an emergency can mean many different things, we appreciate that you know your pet best. So, if it is a concern to you, it is a concern to us! The American Veterinary Medical Association has also outlined symptoms that generally require immediate professional attention:
- Severe bleeding that persists
- Visible breathing distress
- Chronic coughing or gagging
- Persistent constipation (straining)
- Noticeably painful urination
- Seizures or staggering
- Uncontrollable tremors and panting, which can be signs of heat exhaustion
- At least two episodes of extreme vomiting and diarrhea in a 24-hour period
- Lack of interest in drinking water over a 24-hour timeframe
Likewise, if you suspect your pet may have gotten into antifreeze, toxic foods or plants, medications, and other potentially dangerous items, contact us immediately at 904-720-4275 (St. Johns location). We are privileged to provide peace of mind to the many pet owners we serve and look forward to getting your buddy back to their healthy, tail-wagging best.
