Bluestar Pet Hospital Offers Comprehensive Veterinary Dermatology
In Florida's warm and humid climate, our pets can often suffer from skin issues that cause discomfort and can lead to more serious illness in some cases. If you are in need of a cat or dog dermatologist our animal dermatology clinic at Bluestar Pet Hospital is here to help! Our veterinary dermatology can help you to determine if your pet has a skin allergy, has become infested with fleas or ticks, or is simply reacting to the Florida weather.
Food is Often the Culprit in Pet Dermatology Issues
Many of our pet parents have commented that making changes in their dog or cat's diet or food has caused skin problems such as excessive itching and licking. In other instances, overexposure, which is caused by feeding your pet the same food over a long period of time, can cause similar symptoms. If you are concerned that your pet may be having an allergic reaction to their food, we can help! Our allergy testing and an elimination diet can help us to determine if there is a particular ingredient that is causing the allergic reaction. Oftentimes, switching your pet to a new food can rectify the issues.
Fleas, Ticks, and Other Outside Issues
According to our cat and dog dermatologist, there are a lot of creepy crawlies in the Florida environment that can cause your pet skin issues and discomfort. We recommend that you take a proactive approach to flea and tick prevention with a monthly pill or topical treatment. Additionally, if you like to take your pet outdoors in wilderness areas or places where there is a lot of tall grass, we recommend that you supplement their monthly treatment.
We highly recommend flea and tick sprays be applied to your pet prior to taking them out into the woods or other areas that may contain fleas, ticks, and other insects. Apply the spray prior to entering the area, and if you will be there for an extended period of time, don't forget to reapply in a careful and safe manner.
If your pet does become infested with fleas we can help with comprehensive dips and other treatments that are effective in eradicating this skin problem. Prevention is a lot easier than treating your animal for fleas so be sure to take an active protection approach.
